2005-02-08 - 7:50 p.m. Well christ everyone, how's it going?! I'm: I got checks today though, so I'm able to access my savings in Maine. Turns out the Patriot Act won't let me open a bank account here. Seems that in order to be allowed to save your money in a financial institution, you need not only a driver's license/state ID/passport, but you ALSO need either a credit card or student ID. They won't accept a birth certificate. Or a social security card. You need to be in college or blessed with good credit. I'm not completely unemployed, so-to-speak. I stuff envelopes. 11 cents each. It ensures that we get food every once in awhile. So needless to say Washington is proving to be harder than I anticipated. I like it though. I don't love the situation. I'm not sure which should weigh heavier in deciding what we're going to do when our lease runs out this summer. The drive out was awesome though. We didn't get to stop as much as we wanted, but that didn't make much difference. I only broke down once, in Nashville. And that only took an hour and a half off of day two (it was Arkansas that ruined the day...never EVER go to Arkansas.) Then we got stuck just over the California/Oregon border because of snow in the mountains, then freezing rain closed down I-5 the next day. The trip in whole took a week. And to those of you expecting postcards: you will not receive them. Not from the road anyway. I think we threw them away, or left them in Eugene, Oregon. Either way, they're nowhere near me. But you will receive mail. Oh yes. We had our first job interviews yesterday. We're been applying around for a MONTH and finally heard back from GNC. They didn't want us in a big way. One of our interviewers went so far to tell us other jobs we should consider applying for. Like the post office. Though it's not as bad as all that. I mean, it IS, but not really. I'm not having a miserable time. But then come March, when we don't have the money for rent, that might be another story.
