My New Years' resolution is to stop talking about moving. I fully realize that this isn't interesting to the general public. Not that my diary draws much of a crowd...I fully appreciate the small handful of bored readers that keep coming back. So after this entry, I promise. No more moving news. Which is why this entry is going to be jam-packed with all sorts of bland, unintersting crap.

AAA sent me the Trip Tik. Most of it was what I expected, but they sent us further south than we planned. So screw AAA! (Not really, I love you, AAA.) So here's our route: I-95 out of Maine, into NH, into MA where we'll pick up I-495, to I-290, to I-84, which will take us into CT, NY, and PA. Near Scranton we'll pick up I-81, which we'll follow until we get to TN, which is where we're getting on I-40. And that's where we'll stay until somewhere near Bakersfield, CA (not Los Angeles, which is where I feared I-40 ended because I'm a fucking moron with no cartographical knowledge). Then we pick up I-5, which we'll follow to the end. Apparently the house we're renting is not far off the interstate.

And we're not taking the cats with us.

This decision came last night, upon the offer presented to us by Jeremy's parents to let the cats stay here. They'll keep them as long as we're out there, or they'll ship them to us if we miss them. But the cats will be spared the car ride. You'd think I was abandoning my children...I've been feelng awful about it. I know it's the smart decision, and that the cats want to spend five to seven days in the car about as much as we want them in the car with us, but they're our cats. They're stupid and bitchy, just like we are.

Central-northern Maine has been delightful. We've yet to do anything productive. We sleep in a bit, wake up to make CDs for the trip, drink coffee (just me...lots of it too)...I don't have deodorant here, so I've been forced to use Jeremy's dad's, which seems to encourage sweat production more than combat it. I'm getting my car checked today. It should confirm that we would be much safer abandoning the car in a potato field than driving across the United States in it. But we're young and wild!

We're neither young nor wild. We're going to die.
