2004-08-12 - 3:01 p.m. I'll start by saying that a few nights ago, Martin Starr's doppleganger was shopping at the toy store that employs me...he was looking for pirate flags. At the time, though, I thought it might be THE Martin Starr (Bill, the really geeky geek on "Freaks and Geeks"). I enlisted the help of my good friend and co-worker Michelle in determining whether or not it was him. After some light flirting and digging on her part (I was crippled by potential awe over his celebrity), we got enough information to confirm that Michelle was indeed hitting on just another nerd. A nerd who looks and sounds like Martin Starr. But it's because of this encounter last week that has made my sighting of Meg Ryan last night less credible. That's right! This time there was no doubt in my mind. I've seen too many of her films too many times not to recognize Meg Ryan when I saw her. That face! Those hands (I don't know why I know her hands...leave me alone)! She was with some guy...they bought a kite. She didn't play a part in the transaction...she just kind of waited by the door after their selection had been made. I was calm and indifferent...I was one cool customer, I tell you. Mainly because she gave of a "don't talk to me" vibe. Believe you me, as sane as I pretent to be, if I had been given ANY opportunity to talk to her, the first words out of my mouth would be praising her in "When Harry Met Sally", which I'm sure I've seen over 50 times by now. But I'm not one to recognize someone if they don't want to be recognized. She's a lot thinner than I would've imagined. She has no ass to speak of, unless it receded up into her oversized capris. But I was the only one who saw her. Michelle was working with me again, but she was downstairs (the store is two floors...both with an entrance on separate streets). By the time I was able to tell her I saw Meg Ryan, she was long gone. And I guess seeing more than one celebrity a week, whether it's actually them or not, causes skepticism. Jeremy believes me I think. He seemed convinced when I told him how bony she was, having just seen her naked in "In The Cut" and not being turned on.
