So this morning the Green Party called with "just one question" for me...
"Would you consider running for local representative?"
I'm forced to wonder what dire condition Portland's Green Party is in to be calling ME. I'm sure they'd be really excited to back a college dropout with bad credit. I'm no dummy, and sure being a member of city government would probably have a perk or two (no more parking tickets ever?), but soliciting potential candidates alphabetically by phone doesn't seem like a lucrative start to any government job. But I don't know. After I told them that at no time in the near future would I think about running for any type of office, I imagined myself as a candidate...the underdog with a grass roots following. I could slowly inspire a new generation of voters to get involved with politics! I could change the dynamics of our legislative system! Ten years from now I'd be nominated for President...voted not only the youngest, but the first woman President!
After that I watched a show about Stonehenge on the Discovery Channel. It was pretty good.
